France gains most screenings at Fajr festival

The French cinema has obtained the highest number of screenings at the 35th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival in Iran.

According to the secretariat of the annual event, the movies enlighten the works of celebrated and emerging filmmakers and actors. France is taking part with 21 feature-length and two short movies.

The participating feature films include ‘I, Daniel Blake’ by Ken Loach, ‘Wastelands’ by Miriam Heard, ‘Paris La Blanche’ by Lidia Terki, ‘Quatretondeta’ by Pol Rodríguez, ‘Apprentice’ by Junfeng Boo, ‘Wolf and Sheep’ by Shahrbanoo Sadat, ‘Pickpocket’ by Robert Bresson, ‘Daybreak’ Marcel Carné and ‘Ran’ by Akira Kurosawa among the others.

‘Wind’s Whispers’ by Loïc Jouenne and ‘The Silence’ by Ali Asgari and Fanoosh Samadi are the other short films representing France in the festival’s 2017 edition.

Established in 1982, the Fajr International Film Festival celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.

Since its establishment, the Fajr International Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of the Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran and across the world every year.

The 35th International Fajr Film Festival is scheduled to take place in the country’s capital of Tehran from April 21 through 28, 2017.
